Feliz Ano Nuevo Festival Friends,
We are just 6 weeks away from the party getting started, and we can't wait to welcome you here in Oaxaca.
We had a special request from the Distilling Dames (yes, that's really the name of the group), joining us from Colorado, with a particular interest in visiting a mezcal palenque (distillery), and the neighboring village of Teotitlán de Valle, known for its wool-woven rugs and tapestries.
We decided to offer this customized excursion to everyone. I've outlined the day's itinerary below. If you're attending the Hotel Flavia dinner on February 25, we'll have you back in the city with time to regroup and still make the 5:30 pm van departure for dinner. The surrounding villages and agave fields are really worth the trip, so if you can fit it in, you won't be disappointed.
A Day With Oaxaca's Handcrafted Gems: Mezcal & Woven Textiles February 25, 2026 Depart van service Oaxaca Centro at Park LLano
(across from Fiesta Americana Hotel ) 8 am
Stop #1 -Teotilan de Valle 9 am-10:30 am Family Ruiz (personal friends of mine) are multi-generational Zapotecs weaving in the ancient traditional methods. We will visit their workshop to see the grinding/preparation of plant materials and insects for coloring the wool, and a weaving demonstration on their 150-year old looms. Time for shopping with a nice selection of rugs, tapestries, purses, tablerunners, coasters, and clothing made from agave fiber and imprinted with leaves/flowers. This is the ultimate in handmade products! Hot chocolate and a breakfast bread will be served.
Stop #2 Casa Chagoya Mezcal Palenque (Distillery)11 am-1 pm Talk about a family business! Casa Chagoya has been at it for5 generations! Read their website for background; it will make the visit more meaningful. Currently run by 3 siblings, Frida will be our guide through the agave garden and the tour of both the artisanal and ancestral methods of production. You will blown away by how much handwork goes into a bottle of mezcal. A welcome mezcalina cocktail will be served, a tasting of 3 different mezcals, and a selection of snacks including guacamole with chapulines (grasshoppers). A must try!
Depart @ 1pm, returning to Oaxaca centro @ 2pm, same as pickup point.
Per Person: $120 includes everything described above except any products you may wish to purchase at either location.
Only 6 seats available for this excursion.
